On this 7 day trip, you will have the chance to discover the Mongolian Gobi desert and steppe, from its fascinating history to the Gobi Desert itself, with its famous singing sand dunes. Through the Kharakorum city, you will reach the great steppe into the Gobi and experience the unique nomadic lifestyle for 2 days. In the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, the Khongoryn Els sand dunes are said to sing when the wind blows. The park also features the deep ice field of Yolyn Am canyon where dinosaur fossils have been found at the red "Flaming Cliffs'' of Bayanzag. This is the perfect chance to be in touch with the wild and start your dream trip!

Tour Itinerary

Day 1-7

Day 1

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

You will land in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. At the airport, you will meet with your translator who will take you to the city center. If your flight arrives early, you will be taken for a city tour on this day. Your luggage will be dropped at your hotel before you enjoy the city tour.

City tour: The National History Museum of Mongolia, the Chinggis Khaan Square, and lunch or dinner with your guide.  Then you will be taken to some shopping if desired before being dropped at your hotel and then see you tomorrow!

Day 2

Ulaanbaatar to Kharakorum 380 km

This is the first day of the trip to the countryside. Around 8 o'clock you will meet with your guide and driver in the morning at your hotel. Then you will visit Gandantegchinlen Monastery, which is the center of Mongolian Buddhism. After that monastery, you will start driving to the countryside. On the way, your team will stop at a big supermarket to charge what you might need. Today we will drive to the Mongolian old capital city, Kharakorum. Here you will see the historical museum about the Mongolian empire and Erdene Zuu monastery. Erdenezuu is one of the oldest monasteries in Mongolia. Your guide will give you all the information about the history of this place. Before the old capital, you will see the sand dunes of Elsen tasarkhai and it is a nice place to take photos and walk on the sandhills. Also, this place is called the mini Gobi; 80 km long, 3~5 km wide 15 ~20 meters high long sand dunes which are called in Mongolian ‘Elsen tasarkhai’. At the end of the day, you will stay at a tourist camp in Kharakorum.

Day 3

Kharakorum to Ongi

On this morning, you will drive to the beginning of the Mongolian Gobi Desert, to the Buddhist monastery of the Ongi River. The monastery is located at the bank of the Ongi River. It was said to be an astonishing place back in the 17th century but it was destroyed by the Manchus and the Soviets at end of the 17th century. Now we have just destroyed ruins, but lots of people are still coming to visit the monastery. Your guide will give you all the detailed information about this place. You will have lunch somewhere on the way, cooked by your team, and for all-day, you will drive on the beautiful steppe. for a night you will stay at the tourist camp.

Day 4

Ongi to Bayanzag

This morning you will drive to the Bayanzag. This place is called the flaming cliffs too. Bayanzag is the name of this place and the place is rich in saxaul trees. The paleontologists found dinosaur bones and eggs from these cliffs. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Mongolian Gobi desert. At the moment your guide will provide you with very detailed information about this incredible place. if you come to the cliffs during the sunset, the colors will be great.  You will stay at the tourist camp for the night.

Day 8-14

Day 5

Bayanzag to Hongoriin Els

Today your team will drive to the Hongoriin els which are Mongolian longest Sand dunes. These are 180 km long 5-15 km wide and 300 meters high sand dunes!. At this place, you will visit a nomad family.  Here you will ride by camel and climb on top of the sand mountain and, if you are visiting to do it by sunset, you will be taken away even more by its beauty. Your meal will be provided by a  tourist camp as a takeaway to have wherever you stop.

Day 6

Khongoriin Els to Yoliin am

On this day, you will drive to the Yol canyon and the Dungenee canyon. These are amazing places to hike around the canyon and be amazed by the views. First, you will stop at Dungenee canyon, where you will continue the journey on a little hike. Between the big canyons, you will have a lunch prepared by your team. After lunch, your team will drive to the Yol canyon where you will hike into the deep of the Canyon, it takes around 2 hours. In the canyon, you will have a chance to look for the Yoll bird /Gypaete vulture/. It is a kind of  Vulture that is one of Mongolian biggest birds. Around Dungenee and Yol canyon you will be able to see the mountain goat /ibex/ and wild mountain sheep Argali. At end of the day, you will arrive at a tourist camp to spend the night.

160 km of drive

DAY 7

Yoliin am to Baga gazriin chuluu

This day you will be taken to our last point of the Gobi desert. By now you will have experienced the many places in the wonderful Gobi and on this last day, the scenery will completely change and turn into a rocky and flat but lovely view. This is the Baga  Gazriin Chuluu, interesting rock formations could be seen. You will be taken to a very old monastery in the rock and one more cave. Here you will stay with nomads for the last time in the Mongolian countryside. Lunch will be cooked by your team in the steppe and enjoy it surrounded by the peaceful views of the steppe. 

 

400 km of driving

Day 8

Baga gazriin chuluu to Ulaanbaatar

This day, your team will start driving early in the morning.  it will be the last journey back to Ulaanbaatar... around 250 km. a little bit longer than previous days but all roads will be asphalt roads. on the way, you will stop at a local restaurant for the lunch. when you arrive in the city we can take you shopping at the cashmere factory store, souvenir shop, etc…. At 6 PM you will be able to enjoy a wonderful Mongolian traditional concert played by the Mongolian folk art band Tumen Ekh ensemble. Here you will see the Mongolian traditional singing, dancing, shamanism and khoomii /throat singing/ etc...  After the show, you will be taken to your hotel where we can say thank you and goodbye to the team!

Day 9

This day is your last day in Mongolia. 

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport. The transfer can be organized at the time you want, according to the schedule of your flight. Thank you for traveling with us, creating an experience you will never forget!
