In west part of Mongolia there are many ethnic groups of people living for a long time and we you will stay with Zakhchin families, they are 1300 km from Ulaanbaatar. Zakhchin families are Mongolian nomads and they herding horses, sheep, goat, cow, yak, and camel, etc... They speak their own dialect of Zakhchin it is little bit different from main Khalkh dialect of Mongolia. Zakhchin families are herding animals in the big mountain area and most of the time of year they live in mountain. Because western Mongolia is very high place from sea level, you can see snow in here in July too. 

From this trip, you will know about Mongolian nomads, and about Zakhchin people. You will live with two nomad families for two weeks. Both families are Zakhchin families who herd animals. We are sure to be you will have many highligths, herding animals and helping to the nomad families, etc... Also, you can do hiking around the mountain area and a new baby animals will be your friends. 

Tour Itinerary

Day 1-9

Day 1

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

We will meet with you at the airport. If you land early in Ulaanbaatar, we will have city tour. On the way you can change your money while you driving to the center of the city.  You will first drop your luggage at your guest house then have lunch and a city tour.

During the city tour you will see the center square of Ulaanbaatar city, called Chinggis Khaan square. Then you will visit the Mongolian national historical museum and Gandantegchinlen Monastery the center of Mongolian Buddhism. After that you will watch a Mongolian traditional concert, dancing, throat singing, and religious culture from the Tumen ekh ensemble (band of folk singers and dancers/).  All day our driver will accompany you and show to you these places. After the show, the driver will bring you to your guest house.

Day 2

Ulaanbaatar to Zereg by bus

On this day you will start your trip in Mongolia. At 11 am, our driver will take you from your guest house to local bus terminal. At 1 pm you will board in the local bus for the drive to west of Mongolia. This is almost 24 hours of driving for 1300 km to Zereg town of Hovd aimag. Before you leave Ulaanbaatar you can have lunch and dinner will be from local restaurant and bus will stop at restaurant on the middle of road, for next foods will be also from local restaurant.



Day 3

Zereg to Nomad family

You arrive in Zereg town in the afternoon. There will be a nomad where you will stay, who will pick you up. You will have lunch together and you go to the mountain to nomad family. Then you go to the untill foot of the mountain by car or motorcycle and you will leave car here. You will walk 6 km to the nomadic family. You are going to live with this family for a week. In this area most of the families are living at high in the mountain. Because at the bottom it is too warm for animals.


Day 4-9

Stay with family

You will stay with the nomad family for a weeks. The husband of the family is Munkhbaatar BATKHUYAG. He lives with his wife and 2 children. You will discover nomadic life with them, you can participate in nomadic activities such as milking cows and goats, looking like cattle, making dairy products and fetching water, etc... You can also go to cattle pasture with children to monitor and count. Everyda you will have food from this amily with them 

Day 10

Nomad to nomad change

This day you will change your family to the next family. After having breakfast, the husband of the family will accompany you to the next family. You will stay with them for a week. Mountain to mountain you will hike around 10 km. You arrive at Bayanmunkh's home after lunch. He lives with his wife and children. He has 4 children. He is one of the best breeders in the village and he has race horses. His horses often win the horse racing of Mongolian traditional festival Naadam.

Day 10-18

Day 11-16

Live with second family

On these days you will discover nomadic life with them, you can participate in nomadic activities such as milking cows and goats, looking like cattle, making dairy products. The nomads do a lot of activities without predicting the date. They follow the climate and the Buddhist calendar. You could assist "shearing sheep, training horses, making yurts and tanning lamb skins etc." You will also visit places around his home. Around this area between moumtains you can do hiking to the lakes. Everyday you will have food from nomad with them. Enjoy your time here with nomad

Day 17

Nomad to-Zereg-Ulaanbaatar

This day is your last day with your families. You must to get up early in the morning prepare your luggage. After breakfast you will go to the Zereg town from nomad family, it is around 15 km untill Zereg town and you can say Goodbye to the family. The husband of the family will accompany you to the center of the village around lunch. You will take the bus in the afternoon around 4 pm from Zereg town. Drive to Ulaanbaatar for next 24 hours.

Day 18


You arrive in Ulaanbaatar after lunch, there will be a driver who picks you up to the your guest house. If you want to go shopping, it's possible and our driver will go with you.

Day 19

This day is your last day in Mongolia. Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport. Also, the transfer can be organized at the time you want, according to the schedule of your flight. Thank you for you traveled with us
