Orkhon valley

Orkhon Valley is located North of the province of Ovorkhangai, in the central part of Mongolia, about 360 kilometers from Ulan Bator. Located at the foot of the Khangai range. Orkhon Valley is a large place of nomadism where many breeders usually set up their camp. 

ALSO, You can choose this trip just for hiking. This is a perfect place for hiking too. You will enjoy hiking on the steppe and into the mountains and to the volcano. if you choose this trip for hiking it will be cheaper.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1-6

Day 1

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia You will land in Mongolia. At the airport, you will meet with your translator and go to the city center. if you land in Mongolia early you can have a city tour on this day. First, you can drop your luggage at your hotel then you will have a city tour.

 City tour: The National History Museum, the Chinggis Khaan Square, and the lunch or dinner together.  Then we can have some shopping. After we will bring you to your hotel and then see you tomorrow!

 

Day 2

From Ulan Bator to Karakorum (400 km)

You will leave Ulaanbaatar towards Karakorum direction. Under the decree of Genghis Khan, Karakorum became the capital of Mongolia in 1220. His son Uguudei continued construction of the capital and at the time of Munkh Khan, the capital was a center of commerce. The silk road passed through the Karakorum. Unfortunately, the former capital of Genghis Khan had been destroyed by the Min military of China. We have only vestiges of our day. Visit the Erdene-Zuu monastery. It is one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia and built by Avtai Sain Khan in 1586. It is located in the Karakorum and is surrounded by 108 stupas of the Buddhist religion. After dining at the Karakorum at a local restaurant, you leave the Karakorum. You drive about 10 km. Meet your horse guides, they are waiting for you with the horses. Tent camping

Day 3

From the Karakorum to Berkhiin Bulan - (30 km)

Your horse riding tour begins after breakfast that day. You will ride 30 km along the river Orkhon is the longest river in Mongolia. It spans 1,120 km and is also includes the Orkhon Valley. In 2004, it became UNESCO heritage because it has kept the stories of nomads for 2000 years.

Day 4

 From Berkhiin Bulan to Nariinii Am (30 km)

You continue your horse riding. You will start at 10 am. This day you will discover the beautiful Orkhon river and the Orkhon valley. Wild animals in peace and freedom, you will see a long-tailed ground squirrel, marmots, vultures quite easily and also you will also see herds of sheep and goats, horses and yaks. Also, sometimes children will gallop next to you with their racing horses.

Day 5

From Nariinii Am to Aguit (20 km)

After breakfast, you will continue to ride. On this day, you will visit the Tuvkhun monastery built by Zanabazar who was the first Bogd Gegeen (first head of the Buddhist religion in Mongolia). This monastery is located at the top of Shiveet-Ulaan mountain surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Khangai range. It is 2350 meters above sea level. You are going to take your picnic at the top of the mountain. And then, you will continue your riding and arrive at Aguit river. And you will camp here

Day 6

 From Aguit to the nomad family (25 km)

You continue your horse riding nomad family today. You go as far as the nomad family and this is a family that lives by the Orkhon river. You will have beautiful valley scenery. Meet the nomadic family. You can find out about the life of the nomads. For example- milking yaks, gathering cattle, cutting wood and making cheese with them, etc... Overnight in a yurt.

Day 7-13

Day 7

From nomad to Boorog (28 km)

Goodbye to the nomad family. On this day, you will see the Ulaan Tsutgalan waterfall. It is one of the largest waterfalls in Mongolia. It is 20 meters high and 5 meters wide. It flows into the Orkhon river. A very nice meeting of two rivers. You continue your tour to Boorog. This is the last stop before going to Naiman Nuur "Eight Lakes" national park, and also the last night in the Orkhon valley. You will camp around the forest and next to the river.

Day 8

Day: 8 to 10

From Boorog to Naiman Nuur (3 days in 8 lakes area)

You go to the eight lakes national park. There are eight lakes surrounded by fir, pine, larch and juniper trees. This time, the landscape changes completely. You will find lakes and the typical landscape of Mountain. And you will stay there in 3 days. From day 8, you will have yaks for your luggage and we will load them for 3 days, that is to say, the vehicle no longer follows you and the yaks replace it.

Day 8: You will go 20 km in the forest. The path is not long but bumpy and swampy. Picnic on the way. At the end of the afternoon, you will discover 2 lakes Huis and Bayan lakes. Night in a tent at the edge of Lake Huis.

Day 9

You will ride in this national park of 8 lakes. 10-15 km

After having breakfast, you will see other lakes: Doroo, Haya, Shanaa, Bugat, Haliut, and Shireet. Lunch will be next to Shireet Lake. The largest lake is Shireet, it sits 2000 meters above sea level. Very pleasant for swimming. Next to the Shireet lake you will be camping and enjoy your time here. 

 

10-15 km of riding

Day 10

From Shireet to Shuranga (15 km)

After breakfast, you continue your trek on horseback. The last day on horseback. You follow this Shireet lake to Shuranga river and pass the Shireet mountain. Picnic at the Shireet pass which is 2500 meters above sea level. Very nice view for taking photos. And then you come to the nomadic family. Here you will meet with your driver. You will rediscover the life of nomads. For example- milking yaks, gathering cattle, cutting wood and making cheese with them, etc... Goodbye to your horses, to yaks, and your local guides. here you will finish your horse riding trip. See you next time.

Day 11

Shuranga to Mini-Gobi (250 km)

Goodbye to the nomad family and you leave the 8 lakes NP region towards Mini-Gobi. Do not be sad because you will have one more night in the countryside. The 80 km long Mini Gobi dune and its width are between 3-5 km. You arrive in Khogno Khan National Park, a rocky and impressive mountain. You will visit the Erdene Khamba temple which was built in the 12th century. Zanabazar was built this temple for his teacher Erdene Khamba. The Mongols call it "the grand temple". And then, you will ride a camel on the sand dune. After the camel riding you will arrive at the tourist camp, you deserve to have a good shower.

Day 12

Mini-Gobi to Ulanbator (280km)

You are heading towards Ulan Bator. Enjoy the latest countryside landscapes, animals, horses, and yurts. Lunch at the local restaurant en route. Arrival at Ulanbator, your guide will accompany you to the cashmere store. At 6 p.m. there will be the Tumen Ekh Mongolian traditional concert and dance show. You will discover Mongolian culture, dance, traditional songs, and overtone singing, etc...

280 km of driving

Day 13
