In the north of Mongolia close to Russian and Mongolian border there is a big valley called the blue basin of Darkhad. In this valley two big ethnic groups of people are living for a long time Darkhad and Tsaatan families, they are 1100 km from Ulaanbaatar. Darkhad families are Mongolian nomads and they herding horses, sheep, goat, cow, yak, and camel. They speak their own dialect of Darkhad it is little bit different from main Khalkh dialect of Mongolia. Tsaatans are herding animals too but especially herding Reindeers and living in the big mountain area. Darkhad and Tsaatans are mainly live from hunting, gathering plants and use a very large part of their herding.


On this trip,  you will know about Mongolian nomads and about Tsaatans. You will live with two nomad families for two weeks. The first nomad will be  Darkhad family and the second one is the Tsaatan family. We are sure to be you will have many highligths, herding the reindeers and helping to the nomad families, etc... horse riding or hiking around the mountain area and a new baby animals will be your friends. 


DARKHAD NOMADS The Mongolian nomads of the Darhad valley are some of the most self-sufficient people in the world. Across the steppes and mountains of the Darhad Valley, they move huge herds of sheep, goats, cattle, yaks and camels, relying on their tough little horses. It's a harsh and spectacular place, and a gruelling life. 


TSAATAN NOMADS Dukha people. The Dukha, Dukhans or Duhalar ( Mongolian: цаатан, Tsaatan) are a small Tuvan ( Tozhu Tuvans) Turkic community of reindeer herders living in northern Khövsgöl Aimag of Mongolia . The name Tsaatan, which means ‘those who have reindeer’ in the Mongolian language, were originally Tuvan reindeer herders.
